About Me

Family Points Guide is about one thing: using points and miles to travel better as a family.

Most points advice is written for solo travelers. Finding one business-class seat is a completely different game from finding four on the same flight — pooling points across a household, deciding when premium economy beats business for a family of five, knowing which hotel lets two kids stay free in the room. That’s the whole site.

Who’s behind it

I’m a Dallas-based dad of two. I carry nine credit cards, sit on about 200,000 Amex Membership Rewards points, and I’m constantly figuring out how to fly in business class without lighting balances on fire.

Everything here is something I’ve actually done or am actively doing. No theory, no commission-ranked listicles.

What you’ll find

  • Credit Cards — which cards to carry, which to swipe where, and the offers worth your attention. Earn-rate math, no fluff.
  • Flights — finding award seats for the whole family on the same plane, and paying less for them.
  • Hotels & Stays — free nights, suite strategies, and all-inclusives on points.
  • Tips — the mechanics that make points actually work: transfers, pooling, and the mistakes to avoid.
  • Valuations — what I personally value each points currency at, updated quarterly. Every “should I transfer?” decision starts there.

What you won’t find

  • Sponsored rankings disguised as advice. If a card isn’t worth it for families, I’ll say so — regardless of commission.
  • Outdated strategies. If something stops working, I’ll say that too.
  • Trip diaries. This is a tips site, not a travel journal.

A note on money: some links here are affiliate links — I may earn a commission if you apply for a card or book travel, at no extra cost to you. Full details on the Affiliate Disclosure page. It never changes what I recommend.
